Weekend Sewing Retreat
12-14 Ocotber 2018 // Montfoort, the Netherlands
We are Gabi and Emma. We met about 6 months ago at sewing class and quickly became good friends. Apart from having the obvious love for sewing in common we are also both mothers of two young children and foreigners living in the Netherlands, having married Dutch men. When we get the opportunity, we both enjoy browsing for various sewing projects and ideas, restyling old clothing, and posting our latest creations on our blogs.
However, as with many working mothers it is a challenge to find time for ourselves, and outside of sewing class we find we very rarely have time to do any of the things we enjoy, including socialising. We simply lack ‘me time’.
This got us thinking about how we could change this situation and prompted us to start planning a weekend away. A full weekend free of children, free of time pressures and free of family commitments, just free time to do what we love doing most…. Sewing. As much as we enjoy each others company we thought it would also be a wonderful chance to meet other like-minded sewing aficionados!
So, we would like to invite you to join us on our weekend sewing retreat. A weekend at a fantastic location in the peaceful countryside 20 minutes south of Utrecht on a small farm accommodating 12 people. It will be a weekend to share stories, sewing expertise, ideas and techniques and hopefully make some new friends along the way. Above all it aims to be relaxing, no pressures just good old-fashioned conversation over a sewing machine and hopefully a lot of laughter.
There are no requirements needed to join just a common desire to sew and it is aimed at all sewing abilities. I would like to emphasize that there will be no lessons or tutorials, but everyone is welcome to share their experience. There is equally no pre-requisite to be a mother or a foreigner, this weekend is open to all who wish to join us. We are offering an opportunity to meet new people, enjoy some time away from everyday life in a tranquil farm setting and relaxed atmosphere.
The sewing weekend is from Friday 12 October 2018 with arrivals after 5pm, until Sunday 14 October, check out time 5pm. It is available for an additional 10 persons so there will be 12 places in total (including Gabi and Emma). There will be no set schedule apart from meal times but even these can be flexible. You are not obliged to spend the whole weekend sewing, you are free to take time out and enjoy a walk or simply sit in the fresh air and have a few moments of uninterrupted tranquillity. If you are used to waking early, you are welcome to have a lie in, it is your free time to do with what you want, however the main focus will be on sewing. In essence, the weekend will be an informal sewathon with lots of time to chat, meet likeminded sewing lovers, and overall have some fun.
Feel free to bring any scraps or left-over materials or sewing patterns and books that you are happy to share with the group. Any unwanted clothes are also welcome for restyling!

This consists of 6 twin bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, so every room has its own bathroom, some of which are en-suite. The main communal area will be transformed into a sewing room for the duration of the weekend, although this will also be the dining area. There is a separate lounge area overlooking the main communal area so a great place to relax and take a break from the sewing. The rooms are all beautifully decorated and bathrooms modern. There is an additional seating area on the veranda overlooking the Dutch countryside and a large fireplace should the evenings get a little chilly.
The accommodation also provides plenty of parking and Wi-Fi throughout the house. For those arriving on public transport there is also a bus stop close by.
